The city of Henderson is central to three of the greatest man-made attractions in the world—the neon of the Las Vegas Strip, the splendor of Hoover Dam and the tranquility of Lake Mead. But it is also a great destination on its own. Whether you are there for leisure or business, Henderson allows you to experience both the hospitality of a small town and the excitement of a big city. Twelve championship golf courses, over 3,500 hotel rooms, a vast array of shopping choices and great dining experiences make Henderson a place that is sure to please the most discerning visitor.
Henderson was "born in America’s defense" ten years prior to its incorporation, during World War II when the Basic Magnesium Plant was built there. The plant supplied the United States War Department with magnesium for munitions and airplane parts. The city was officially incorporated into Nevada in 1953. Originally about 13 square miles in size, Henderson quickly began to grow and flourish to its current population of 270,000 residents. Today, the city has grown to more than 103 square miles and is the second largest city in Nevada. Its slogan, "A Place to Call Home", is backed with well-planned communities, relaxing resorts, outstanding parks and recreation facilities and a stellar cultural arts scene.
